Rasta Roots

Rasta Roots was a Heritage Lottery Funded project delivered by Hercules Productions in 2013. It engaged young people to look at Rasta culture in the west through the teachings and speeches of H.I.M Selassie and Ethiopian culture. The project culminated in a series of performance based concerts including spoken word, theatrical pieces and music.

Hercules Productions were invited to Dunham Massey to perform the pieces from the Rasta Roots project in honour of what would have been H.I.M Selassie’s birthday. The performance was filmed by the BBC’s programme Inside Stories – an extract of which is below.

The piece was also performed at the Contact theatre and the documentary was screened at the Cornerhouse later in 2013.
